The business world is a changing place. Long gone are the days when we would work for the same company our entire career, expect to retire on a pension and live happily ever after. In an uncertain economy with companies folding left and right, people have realized that nothing is forever and that we need to take the bull by the horns.

As a small business owner, you have done just that. But, did you know that you can expand your opportunities by building the brand of  You. Open yourself up to collaboration with other small businesses or professionals and manage your online image.

You can do this by:
1. Updating your online resume through LinkedIn. Think of it as an online version of a leads group.
2. Control what is posted on Facebook and Twitter. Everything you do online reflects upon you as a business owner.
3. Take a few minutes to clean up  your online image which may pop up through a simple Google search. eHow offers a step-by-step guide here.

It’s a wild virtual world out there and people are cyber-spying all the time. Control what they see or better yet, be aware that your “virtual image” is more wide-reaching than your in-person image and present yourself as if you’re in a job interview- online anyway.
